Below the knee and above the knee amputees can both benefit from this style of suspension. A constant monitored suction is controlled by an electric/mechanical pump attached to the socket.
This pump pulls the liner and the amputees residual limb inward towards the socket walls. A great benefit of this system is the limited movement within the socket, there is very limited excessive motion, therefor less friction. This design also improves circulation, greatly improving the overall health of the residual limb.
This design is often a preferred method of CPO’s (certified prosthetist orthotists) to accomplish a brimless design socket meaning shorter trim lines avoiding pressure in the groin area and allowing for better range of motion at the hip points. This design really increases the level of comfort amputees experience wearing their device which in turn allows them to wear the prosthesis for longer period of time.
